William M.
Radtke
Jun 3, 1943 — Dec 12, 2025
Appleton
William Martin Radtke was born on June 3, 1943 to Martin & Evelyn (Sieber) Radtke. He was a younger brother to Robert and sister Bonnie, and was a graduate of 1961 Marion High School where he excelled in football. He was an enthusiastic 4H Leader for McKinley 4H of Shawano County. He was baptized and confirmed by St. John's Lutheran Church in Marion, Wisconsin, and was a lifelong member of Faith Community Methodist Church in Greenville, Wisconsin. Bill passed away on December 12, 2025 at Theda Care Regional Center in Appleton, Wisconsin, following a brief illness.
Bill drove stock cars at Shawano and Shiocton speedways and drove milk truck for Buss Cheese Factory. He was drafted into the U S Army in May of 1966 and served in Vietnam in 1967. A decorated veteran, he was the Recipient of Purple Hearts and the Commendation Medal with the H Device for Heroism. He could never hear The Star Bangle Banner Anthem without tearing up.
On October 5, 1968 he married Sandra Kay Braun; together they forged a loving home near Appleton with their daughter Camille (Cami) Lemmers.
During Bill's lifetime, he had several jobs, ranging from Welder, Mechanic, Inspector, Long Distance Truck Driver, Equipment Demonstrator, Motor Coach Driver. He was a jack of all trades and a master of all. The best job he held, however, was Driving School Bus for Greenville Middle School. Mr. Bill loved his kids on Route 25. He had a weekly tradition he called "Candy Fridays" where everyone was given candy.
In July 2012, for Farm Technology Days, Bill and Sandy were selected to spearhead the public's purchase of 1,000 of an exact replica toy of the Koehring Farm Equipment Chopper. It was quite a feat at the cost of $275 each, and a success.
In 2019, Bill was humbled and honored to be one of 52 veterans to Return to Nam; a two week trip that took the Returnees back 50 years later to facilitate their healing processes. He was also honored to be on the Old Glory Flight in July, 2014.
Bill and Sandy enjoyed winters in Florida and summers at their cottage on Pelican Lake. The walleye will rest easier now. Elvis, their 23 year old kitty, was their beloved companion in their travels. A regular Tuesday afternoon Marble Game brought an occasional spirited conversation when a questionable play was made. Once an avid hunter in his earlier years, during retirement Bill learned the beauty of watching and enjoying wildlife. Bill always made sure to be stocked up on corn and sunflower seeds to keep his turkeys, deer, birds and squirrels all well fed and happy. It wouldn't be unusual for him to have a chipmunk or red squirrel sit on the swing with him! Bill will be remembered for his love of family and friends, and his infectious laugh.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sandra; daughter Camille (Andrew) Lemmers; a granddaughter Carley (fiance Ryan Berray) Lemmers. He is further survived by a sister Bonnie (Evan) Carpenter and sisters-in-law Amy (Jim) Drake and Lynda (Jerry) Braun as well as many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his brother Robert Radtke and parents, Martin and Evelyn Radtke.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 18, 2025, from 9-11 am at Faith Community Methodist Church, N1966 Julius Drive, Greenville, WI, with a service to follow at 11:00. Internment will be in Greenleaf Cemetery, Marion, Wisconsin.
