Obituary

Tom Bartman, age 80 passed away peacefully at his home on December 24, surrounded by his family.  Tom was born on September 19, 1943, in Appleton, to the late Fred and Lucille (Koehnke) Bartman. Tom married Ramona Butler in 1964 at St. Mary's Catholic Church and together they took great pride in raising and loving their two children, Lisa and Tom.

Tom graduated from Appleton High School in 1962.  He worked at Peterson Press and Baer Printing until his retirement in 2005. Upon retirement he was able to pursue his non-stop projects that included wonderful woodworking, restoring their homes and helping care for his great grandchildren.  His interest in fishing would be a life link with many friends and generations of family members. Tom was a man of infinite Kindness, He completed multiple projects and garages for many but his fondest memories were the projects he worked on, side by side with his Dad, son Tom (Tommer), and brother, Don.

Tom and Mona took many small trips to explore areas close and far. They shared their love of the Northwoods with their family and friends fishing, camping and especially their annual family vacation in the Three Lakes Area. In his later years, Tom enjoyed his family trips to Germany, an experience he never imagined. Tom built a log cabin in Lily that continues to be lovingly used by their family members. The cabin was built using true homesteader methods of clearing the land, falling the trees and hand crafting each window, door and finishing to complete his finest challenge.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved son, Tom, parents, brother Terry, Son-In-Law Scott Watkins, brothers-in-law Robert Weber and Richard Brucks, sister-in-law Maureen Waala.

Along with his wife, Mona, and daughter, Lisa, Tom is survived by sisters Mary (Gordon) Neitzke, Susan (Rob) Draxler, brother Don (Ray) Bartman, brother-in-law Bill Butler (Sharon), sisters-in-law Ellen Weber Helms (Dave), Sheila Brucks, grandchildren, Jennifer (Joe) Wall, John (Christy) Watkins, Ryan (Rachele) Watkins, Spencer (Helena) Watkins, Melanie (Jacob) Perez, Craig (Samantha) Vanden Heuvel, Max (Crystal) Bartman, Sam Bartman (Morgan)  great-grandchildren, Blake and Andie Wall, Ryker and Rayne Watkins, Norah Watkins, Kaylee, Quintin, and Raymond Watkins, Skyler, Collin and Myles Perez, Hailey, Malerie and Harper Vanden Heuvel, Addilyn and Thomas Bartman, and many nieces and nephews. Supportive family friends including Greg & Phyllis Peters, Ron, Marilyn & Tony Sternagel,  Dewey & Shirlee Stroessenreuther and Cal & Diane Steward.

Tom was very thankful for his daughter Lisa, who has given her time and energy as Mona and Tom's caregiver over the last few years. He was forever thankful for his supportive grandsons, John, Max, Sam and Joe. They allowed him to continue to enjoy Wisconsin's Northwoods and fishing in his later years. As his first granddaughter, Jennifer held a special place in his heart and their time together was always full of laughter and love.  Their son, Tom, was a supportive loving son and he will be reunited with him in eternal life.

A Memorial Mass for Tom will be held at Noon on Sat. Dec. 30, 2023 at St. Mary Catholic Church (312 S. State St.) Appleton with Rev. William Swichtenberg officiating.
