Sylvia H.
Laux
Jul 24, 1930 — Dec 22, 2022
Appleton
Sylvia Laux, age 92, of Appleton, entered God's kingdom to be with her loving husband Don on Thursday, December 22, 2022. Sylvia was born in Combined Locks on July 24, 1930, to the late Joseph and Clasina (van den Boom) Godschalx. After high school graduation she worked for Lawrence University. Later she worked for 18 years in retail. Her most treasured role, however, was raising her family.
Sylvia had a love for nature whether it was sitting under her maple tree reading, enjoying walks with friends or traveling to be near the water. She volunteered at her parish, St. Bernard Catholic Church, and in the community in a variety of ways including helping school children learn to read, serving meals to those in need, and working at the hospital gift shop. Sylvia had a very strong faith with a deep devotion to Our Blessed Mother Mary. Most of all, she was known for her kind heart, sweet nature and genuine gratitude for all things in life.
Sylvia was blessed with 58 years of marriage with her husband Don; four children: Linda (Mark) Slater, Patricia (Doug) Westhoven, Sara (Cal) Akin, and Daniel Laux; eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving husband Don, her beloved granddaughter Sara Slater, her parents, and siblings Adrian, Julia (Fuerst), Milo, Ray, Vincent, Rita (Bradway) and Al Godschalx.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 3, at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 1617 W. Pine St., Appleton, with Father Dennis Ryan officiating. Friends may visit at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 am until 10:45 am. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Heartfelt thanks to the special people from Home Instead and Unity Hospice for the love and amazing care provided for Sylvia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pillars which provides shelter, support, and solutions to those facing homelessness in the Appleton community.
