Steven A.
Dybus
Sep 5, 1949 — Mar 22, 2026
Kimberly
Steven A. Dybus, age 76, passed away on March 23, 2026. He was born on September 5, 1949, and most of his life was spent in the City of Appleton, where he proudly raised his family. In recent years, he resided in the Town of Springwater on Round Lake.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Benno and Betty Dybus, as well as his brother, Kieth, and sister, June. He is survived by his brother, Carl J. Dybus; his children, Heather (partner - Mike Fate), Christopher, Travis (partner - Alex Hueller), and Allyson (husband - Eric Secrest); and his beloved grandchildren, Rayne, Raegen, Elyta, Cassidy, Sophee, Kaedance, Aubree, Cameryn and Mason. He also leaves behind his loyal dog, Pookie.
As a boy, Steven enjoyed playing baseball and riding his bike to Templin's for candy—often finding a little mischief along the way. He graduated from Appleton West High School and went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He began his career at Riverside (Kerwin) Paper, working in the boiler room as an electrician, and later became a semi-truck driver. He retired from Riverside Paper when the mill closed. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering dedication.
Steven married Julie Stickney in 1977, and although they later divorced in 2001, they shared many years raising their family together. Some of the most cherished memories were made at the family cottage in Wild Rose. From morning pancakes to long days on the lake, those moments became treasured traditions. Steven spent countless hours carefully sifting stones from the beach to create a smooth shoreline for his children—a labor of love that his grandchildren now continue and enjoy.
He found his greatest happiness in life's simple pleasures: fishing, living on the lake, and cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. He especially loved time spent with his children and grandchildren—whether fishing, taking evening canoe rides, or swimming together. Steven also enjoyed politics, financial planning, his nightly shows, long walks with his dog, Friday fish fries, growing tomatoes, and working on projects around the lake house, cars, or his motorcycle. His sons will especially miss their lively political debates with him.
Steven was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Saxeville, Wisconsin. His family is deeply grateful for the prayers, cards, and support they received from the church community and Pastor Kristina.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Frontida for the kindness, compassion, and care they showed Steven. Their efforts made him feel welcomed, comfortable, and supported as he began the final chapter of his life, and this meant more to the family than words can express.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m., at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, 606 N. Oneida Street, Appleton, Wisconsin 54911. A luncheon will follow the service.
He will be remembered for his deep love of family, his quiet acts of care, and the warmth he brought to everyday moments. Steven will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
