Robin A.
Long
Oct 19, 1932 — Nov 14, 2023
Appleton
Robin A. Long, age 91, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Brewster Village. Robin was born in Appleton on October 19, 1932, to the late Harry and Alice (Landers) Long. He graduated with the class of 1952 at Appleton High School. Following graduation, Robin was drafted into the U. S. Army and proudly served his country for two years.
In August of 1955, he was united in marriage to Patricia Cole. He went to work as a truck driver for his family's transportation business – Harry H. Long Moving, Storage, & Express - and quickly moved his way up to Vice President, a position he held for many years until retirement in 1992. Following retirement, he worked part time at Kolosso Automotive and at the Target store (where he also played Santa).
Robin was very active in the community. He was an active member of the Appleton Jaycees, volunteered at Rawhide and participated in their telethon every year. As a member of the Jaycees, he volunteered in the city, making sure local kids received a present at Christmas time, playing the role of Secret Santa. He was active at book clubs and hosted plays for the local community in his home. He and his family were also very active in putting on the Miss Appleton Pageant and the Soap Box Derby. He enjoyed all these things, but, most of all, Robin enjoyed spending time with his family – especially the times at his parents' cottage at Rainbow Beach on Lake Winnebago, where they created many fond memories. Robin was also a long-time member at St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton, and of the American Legion post in Appleton.
Robin will be missed by his four children: Lisa Frye, Brookfield, Pam (John) Guehlstorf, Milwaukee, and Karen Morin, Neenah, Tim Long, Appleton; three grandchildren: Sean Frye, Chloe Newbauer, and Bailey Morin; five great grandchildren: Danity Riojas, Madelyn Frye, Jacob Newbauer, Lilly Newbauer, and Charlie Newbauer; and sister-in-law Gladys Long, Appleton. He is further survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Robin was preceded in death by his parents, Alice (Landers) and Harry Long, and by siblings Marquette (Long) Page, John, Joanne (Long) Kolosso, Marilyn (Long) Christensen, Donald, Jerry, and Keith.
A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 25th, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 S. State St. Appleton, with Father Bill Swichtenberg officiating, followed immediately by full military honors performed by Appleton Legion Post #38. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday from 9 am until 10:45 am. Interment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Antonet Woods for the compassionate care given to Robin for the past several years.
