Robert Michael
Janda
Apr 30, 1940 — Jan 4, 2025
Appleton
Robert (Bob) Michael Janda was born April 30, 1940 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He died peacefully from cancer January 4, 2025, at home, in his own bed, as he desired. Bob was the son of Tess (Bagrowski) and Edward Janda, husband of Lenore (Glass), father of Michael and Lori.
He graduated from St. Rita Grade School and Notre Dame High School in Milwaukee.
Bob met Lenore in northern WI, where they would spend many hours of their 62 years of marriage. They were married on June 2, 1962. Bob and Lenore briefly lived in Seattle, WA before returning to Milwaukee after the birth of their son. They lived there for 10 years before moving to Appleton. Bob supported his family as a computer systems analyst at various places including Honeywell and Secura Insurance.
His heart was at Two Sisters Lake. For over 50 years, he and Lenore, with their children, spent many weekends and summer days building and playing at the family cottage. Despite his inability to swim, he both sailed and water skied. One water-skiing episode had him skiing in his tux after his daughter's wedding and getting wet only to his knees.
Bob was a jack-of-all-trades who could fix most anything. He built many things including garages for cottage neighbors, cabinets, benches, chairs, and tables, and most recently 3 spinning wheels. He liked watching TV, reading, woodworking, and golfing. Bob had a subtle sense of humor that was his own which sometimes perplexed others. He bought cross-country skis for the whole family which became lifelong hobbies. Bob and Lenore enjoyed exploring the backroads in northern Wisconsin on his motorcycle. Spending time in the quiet and solitude of the north woods at the cottage was his thing.
Preceded in death by his parents, Bob is survived by his wife Lenore; children - Mike of De Pere, WI and Lori (Joe) Walewski of Finland, MN; granddaughter and great granddaughter – Jenny and Kaisley of Superior, WI, and other relatives.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 11 am on Friday, January 10, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr. Appleton. Friends may visit at the church on Friday from 10 am until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at Newbold Cemetery in Oneida County in the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Habitat for Humanity and Wisconsin PBS.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Compassus Hospice, especially Ashley, for the compassionate care given to Bob.
