Rita Ann
Kugler
Oct 1, 1936 — Jul 23, 2023
Appleton
Rita Ann Kugler, daughter of Michael and Leona (Schmidt) Kugler, was born on October 1, 1936, and shed her earthly bonds on Sunday, July 23, 2023, to enter into eternal glory where she joined family and friends who preceded her in death.
Rita was baptized, received her first Communion, and was confirmed at Sacred Heart Parish where she became a lifelong member. She began her grade school education at S. Patrick's Catholic Grade School in Menasha. After moving to her beloved E. South River Street home in 1943, she completed her elementary education at Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School and graduated from St. Mary's Central High School class of 1954. She then attended Fox Valley Technical Institute and after completing her studies was offered a position at FVTI. Rita later was employed by the Heid Music Co. where she enjoyed promoting piano sales. She truly loved working for Heid Music because her work so closely aligned with her passion for music. Rita was both an accomplished pianist and organist, providing wonderful entertainment both privately and professionally throughout her lifetime.
In 1984, Rita ended her career with Heid's to earn an associates degree from Fox Valley Technical College. After graduation, Rita worked briefly for Koutnik Paint and Wallpaper before leaving the workforce to care for her aging parents.
During Rita's working years, she also made travel a priority. Her European trip included a visit to Germany to explore her German heritage. She also traveled extensively with her parents throughout the United States. She took many photos and collected artifacts that reflected her travels. They are among the many possessions Rita generously gifted to her cousins and their families.
In addition to being a devoted daughter, Rita treasured her relatives, friends, and neighbors. She orchestrated and hosted the yearly Cousins' reunion, making every gathering a special event. Rita was fiercely independent and had a unique style. She favored hats and the color black. Rita was a very frequent Valley Transit rider and became friends with the drivers over the years. You can bet if they have buses in Heaven, she's riding in one right now.
One of Rita's greatest pleasures was "digging in the dirt." She loved nature and working in her yard but was a little fearful of some of the creatures she encountered in her yard and neighborhood. She told many funny stories about these encounters. Anyone who knew Rita heard about the bat incident and the deer staring her down through the kitchen window.
Rita was a beautiful human being in every possible way and will be missed beyond measure.
A funeral service will take place at 3 pm on Thursday, July 27th, at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 1 pm until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Rita was so grateful for the kindness shown, the help provided, and the many visits from her neighbors, friends, Sacred Heart Church members and relatives during her illness. She was especially grateful to cousins Nancy and Susie for their assistance and support since day one of her final journey. Rita also appreciated the wonderful care and support from her Hospice team as well as from her care givers at St. Paul Villa. Rita was a joyful person. She loved and cared for the people in her life and truly appreciated everything life had to offer.
