Obituary

Ray passed away peacefully at his home in Appleton, Wisconsin, on July 28, 2026. Though his family mourns his passing, they find comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved wife, Dawn, with whom he shared nearly three decades of love, laughter, adventure, and unwavering devotion.

Ray was born to Leo and Viola Yohr and grew up in Manawa, Wisconsin. He graduated from St. Paul Lutheran school, and Manawa High School before attending the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point. He built a career founded on hard work, integrity, and dedication, retiring after 37 years as a delivery driver with UPS. Throughout his career, Ray became known not only for his dependability but also for the genuine kindness and respect he showed to everyone he met.

In 1963, Ray married his high school sweetheart, Darlene. Together they built a loving home and were blessed with four wonderful children: Bruce, Amy, Randy, and Greg. Although their marriage ended after 22 years, Ray and Darlene remained friends and shared a lifelong commitment to their family.

In 1995, Ray found love again when he married Dawn. Together they enjoyed nearly three decades of marriage filled with laughter, companionship, and unforgettable adventures. They especially cherished traveling together, often accompanied by Ray's sister, Ginny, and brother-in-law, Dennis Buschke.

While Ray's work was important to him, his greatest joy was always found in his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who treasured every opportunity to spend time with those he loved.

A man of deep faith, Ray was an active and devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton. He faithfully taught Sunday School for many years, helping guide young people in their Christian faith, and later served as a member of the Stephen Ministry, offering encouragement, compassion, and comfort to those facing life's challenges.

Ray found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was an enthusiastic Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Bucks, and Milwaukee Brewer fan who rarely missed cheering on his favorite teams. He was also a Green Bay Packer share holder.

Ray's greatest gift was his caring heart. He had a remarkable ability to make others feel important. His gentle nature, willingness to lend a helping hand, and genuine concern for others touched countless lives. Family, friends, neighbors, church members, and even casual acquaintances were all better for having known him.

Ray was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dawn Yohr, and by his parents, Leo and Viola Yohr, and Ex wife Darlene Combs.

He is lovingly survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Ginny and Dennis Buschke; his children, Bruce (Dionna) Yohr, Amy (John) LaFond, Randy Yohr, and Greg Yohr; his stepchildren, Mark (Kate) Wilson and Dave (Peggy) Wilson; his grandchildren, Jordan (Ann) Yohr, Cameron (Kim) Yohr, Brittney LaFond, Ryan LaFond, Samantha Yohr, Garrett Yohr, Tyler Yohr, Mindy Peterson, Alex Wetzel, Tayler (Mitchell) LaBerge, Kasey Glowacki (Brandon), and Scott Kalmon; his great-grandchildren, Scarlett, William, Addison, Margaret, Penelope, and Miranda; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.  Especially his best friend of 50 plus years Jack Miller.

A celebration of Ray's life will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton, on Thursday August 6th with visitation from 9 to 11am, followed by service at 11am. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Dawn, at Highland Memorial Park in Appleton.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church or the Fox Valley Humane Society, two organizations that held a special place in Ray and Dawn's hearts.
