Nicholas David
Thiel
May 21, 1989 — Jun 7, 2024
Appleton
Nicholas "Nick" David Thiel, age 35, passed peacefully at 3 a.m., after battling sepsis for many hours on June 6th & 7th. He was born in Appleton, WI to Jodi Heckel Johnson and David Thiel. He graduated from Appleton West Renaissance School for the Arts in 2007. An honor graduate from the Religious Studies Program at UW-Madison, Nick also received a degree from Fox Valley Technical College for Information Systems Security. He married Charlotte Radliff on December 15, 2012, and they shared a beautiful daughter, Sylvie Juliet. In October of 2023, his fiancé Lindsey Pomputis gave birth to an adorable boy named Beck Issac.
Like most dads, Nick's children were central in his life, and he was a stay-at-home dad for Beck. He had a wonderful, loving way of communicating with children, and there were many hours spent doing whatever Sylvie was interested in, from playing Barbie to board games to just cuddling. Nick was definitely a left-brain artistic person. He read voraciously, wrote published poetry, produced many intricate drawings, and played guitar. He was also a compassionate friend, willing to listen and help. But all lives are not without their struggles, and Nick was no exception. He fought very hard for something that many people take for granted: a focused mind, contentment, and a sense of belonging. He never gave up.
Nick is survived by his finance Lindsey Pomputis: Children Sylvie & Beck Thiel: Parents Jodi Johnson & David Thiel (Rita): Brother John Thiel (Molly): Stepbrother Nathan Penn (Jenny). He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Helen & Kenneth Heckel, and Marie & Earl Thiel, as well as his uncle, Michael Poeschl.
A celebration of Nick's life will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at the United Church of Christ, 110 E. Hancock Street, New London, WI. Visitation will be from 9-11am. The service will start at 11am, officiated by Reverend Dr. Stephen Savides.
