Nancy L. Allen

89, Appleton, passed away on July 22, 2026, at Frontida Assisted Living. She was born on June 8, 1937, to the late Earl and Julia (Louden) Allen in Milwaukee, WI. She graduated from UW Lacrosse with a teaching degree and taught at Shawano HS as a physical education teacher. She went on to receive her master's degree in counseling. This led her to a career as an addiction counselor at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, retiring in 1996.

Nancy was a prolific volunteer in the Fox Valley. She loved animals and took in retired grey hounds and supported many animal foundations. She was on the literacy council of Appleton and taught English to many Hmong refugees. She also helped them with socially integrating into the community.

She loved her church, First English Lutheran, and helped as a worship assistant and was  certified in Stephen Ministries. She loved to play golf and preferred to live a more simple life and had a servant's heart.

Survivors include her two nieces: Diane (Bob) Pieters and their children: Jeff (Tamara) Pieters and Jennifer (Jack) Chamberlain; Jane (Jim) Schalow and their children: Jill (Paul) Helgerson, Jackie (Joel) Rhoades and Jon (Mary) Schalow.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Virginia (Gustave) Beeskau and infant Judith Ann Allen.

A Memorial Service for Nancy will take place at 11 AM on Sat. Aug. 22, 2026, at First English Lutheran Church (Downtown site) with Rev. Jeff Tengesdal officiating. Friends may visit the family from 9:30 AM until the service directly at the church. She will be laid to rest at Historic Riverside Cemetery in Appleton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to First English Lutheran Church or the Fox Valley Humane Society.
