Michael A.
Gassner
May 12, 1953 — Sep 6, 2023
KIMBERLY
70, formerly of Greenville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2023, at Frontida Assisted Living in Kimberly. Mike was born on May 12, 1953, in Appleton to the late Arnold and Eileen (Seubert) Gassner. He graduated from St. Lawrence Seminary in Mt. Calvary in 1971. He married the love of his life, Chris Hawley, on April 26, 1975, and they were blessed with two daughters.
Mike spent his career in the construction field and enjoyed teaching others about the trade. He specialized in finish work and took great pride in his craftsmanship, and it showed. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, grilling, playing cards, elaborate pranks and the Packers. Most of all he loved spending his time with his girls and grandchildren.
His positivity was infectious, and his laugh will never be forgotten. He impacted the lives of so many with his open mind and heart. So many people would stop by to visit him his entire life for advice, a laugh, a drink, a listening ear, a friend.
He will be deeply missed by his daughters: Lori (Ryan) Hagen of Onalaska, WI, and their children: Drew and Cole; Katie (Jon) Shimon of Appleton and their daughters: Willow, Vanessa and Natalie; siblings: Sue (Al) Ansorge, Jo (Randy) Bockin, Kay Guyant, Tim (Joanne) Gassner and Ken (Charlotte) Gassner; in-laws:
Suzanne (Roger) Metz, Karen (Carl) Treml, David (Cindy) Hawley and Gary (Mary) Hawley; brothers-in-law: Bill Igl, Ken Geurts and John Ashman. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Chris in 2020; sisters: Joan Igl and Diane Geurts and sister-in-law Betty Ashman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church (404 W. Lawrence St.) Appleton with Br. Ray Stadmeyer, O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Friends may visit directly at church on Saturday from 9 AM until the time of Mass. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Appleton.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth hospital for their excellent care. The family would also like to extend a big thank you to the staff of Frontida for the friendship and care given to Dad over the past two years. They truly went above and beyond and made Dad feel right at home including the bantering given right back to him.
