Maureen Elizabeth
Van Doren
Nov 11, 1942 — Oct 29, 2022
Maureen Elizabeth (Flanagan) Van Doren (otherwise known as Grandma Moon) was called to her heavenly home on Saturday, October 29, 2022 following a brief illness. She was born in Appleton to the late Thomas J. and Beulah E. (Green) Flanagan on November 11, 1942. Maureen lived in Appleton all of her life attending both parochial and public schools. She graduated from Appleton High School in 1961 and following graduation began working at Green's Pharmacy for many years.
Maureen married the love of her life Connor Van Doren on November 26, 1966. Together they had three children Todd, Ann and Dean. She enjoyed volunteering in many capacities in her children's lives both at school and at the many athletic activities her children were involved in. She never missed a sporting or school event for her kids or grandkids and always provided positive encouragement and necessary "tough love" when needed.
Maureen had a green thumb and greatly enjoyed spending time outside working on her lawn and tending to her beautiful flowers. She loved cooking and baking for her family, riding around in her little red car with her favorite companion, Raven, and going up north and spending time with Connor. Most of all she adored her grandchildren and cherished the time she was able to spend with them.
Maureen worked for the Appleton Area School District for 40 years. She was a paraprofessional from 1983 until the time of her retirement. When Appleton North High School opened she transferred to work there in the in-school suspension program and reprographics. Maureen loved being a part of the North community. She was in her element when working at North's athletic events. She worked as a gate attendant, score/time keeper, and crowd control up until her passing. Maureen mostly enjoyed the friendly banter with the staff and fans.
Maureen is survived by Connor; her children: Todd (Julie) Van Doren, Ann (Jody) Seubert and Dean (special friend Carrie) Van Doren; her grandchildren: Elizabeth "Lizzy" and Carson Van Doren, and Ariana, Jaden and Aubrey "Aubs" Seubert; her loving canine companion Raven; and other relatives and close friends. She is preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial visitation for Maureen will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at BRETTSCHNEIDER TRETTIN NICKEL FUNERAL CHAPEL, 606 N Oneida Street, Appleton.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and nurses at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center of Appleton for their compassionate care of Maureen during her illness.
Mom...you were our rock who loved us unconditionally. Thank you for all of your guidance and support. We love you so much and will miss you every day.
