Margaret "Margie" A. Hopfensperger, age 72, of Appleton, passed away on April 24, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah. Margie was born in Green Bay on September 26, 1953, to the late Leo and Mildred (Vandenberg) Diermeier. She went to grade school at St. Joseph Catholic School in Appleton and graduated with the class of 1972 at Xavier High School. Following high school, she attended Fox Valley Technical College where she studied nursing.
On October 19, 1985, Margie was united in marriage to Alan Hopfensperger at St. Mary Parish in Appleton. The couple have enjoyed over 40 years together. She worked for many years as a nurse's aide and most recently she could be found at St. Mary Parish serving as sacristan and helping out wherever she could.
Margie loved her home. She enjoyed being a wife and mother - but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandsons, Colton and Caden. Margie loved people. Her joyful, out-going personality brought happiness to many people. Everyone she met was welcomed into the circle of her heart. In addition to bringing smiles to everyone, she also loved to shower them with her homemade baking.
Margie will be missed by her daughter, Anna (Austin) Selle, Kimberly; son Christopher "Ziggy" Hopfensperger; grandsons Colton and Caden; her sister, Sr. Mary Ellen Diermeier, Bevent, WI; and her brother, Msgr. Joseph Diermeier, Marathon City, WI
She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Mildred and an infant son Nicholas.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 7, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 S. State St. Appleton. Friends may visit at the church on Thursday from 9 am until 10:45 am. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to thank the staff at ThedaCare Hospital in Neenah for their compassionate care and her church family at St. Mary for all of their prayers and support.
Margie's Faith was very important to her. Margie lived to serve Our Lord and to love all the people that God put in her life. "Well done good faithful Servant."
