Zastrow
Jun 10, 1950 — Sep 23, 2023
Appleton
Lynn 'Little Zip' Alan Zastrow
73, of Appleton, WI, went home to eternal glory on September 23, 2023, surrounded in love, with his family by his side after a six-year battle with prostate cancer. Lynn was born on June 10, 1950, in Manchester, WI, to Walter and Doris (Nitz) Zastrow. Lynn married Sue Berholtz on August 4, 1984. He was a man of faith, had a passion for life and was known for his love and dedication to his family.
Lynn was a loving husband to Sue and a devoted father to his children, Jeffrey (Shauntae) Zastrow, Daniel (Mary) Zastrow, and Toni (Philip) Watry. Lynn also cherished a special bond with his seven granddaughters, Krystal Zastrow, Augustine (Daniel) Zastrow, Brice (Casey) Krainas, Johanna (Tanner) Zastrow, Lilyana Watry, Lydia Watry, and Lauryn Watry. He adored spending time with them and always had a smile and a joke to share. Lynn's love extended to his five great-grandchildren as well.
Lynn had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed deer hunting, a tradition he shared with his father and cousins, and later with his own sons. Lynn was proud to have hunted for 60 straight years. He also loved fishing with family and friends and spending time in nature. In his younger years, Lynn had a passion for baseball and softball, playing on many recreational teams and creating fond memories.
Lynn had a great sense of humor and quick wit, always with a smart or quirky comeback. He was a great cook – his baked beans, meatloaf, and chili were always family favorites. He also loved cheering on his favorite sports teams, the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers. Lynn and his wife enjoyed taking drives throughout the state, discovering hidden treasures along the way. He also enjoyed vegetable gardening and tinkering in the garage.
Lynn's career included working at Friday Canning Factory in his younger years. He attended Fox Valley Technical College where he earned his Journeyman card and went on to work at Appleton Mills which would become Voith Fabrics where he worked as a Millwright and Maintenance Mechanic for over 30 years - there he made many life-long friends. He was dedicated to his work and took pride in his accomplishments.
A Funeral service for Lynn will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023, at Appleton Alliance Church with Pastor Brian Episcopo officiating. Visitation will begin at church from 10 AM until the time of service.
Lynn will be dearly missed by his wife of 39 years, children, grandchildren above and including Zach (Brittany) Stoll, Ashley (Joel) Amos, Rebecca (Casey) Stoll, Jacob Heiman, Jenna Heiman, great-grandchildren, sister Lynette (Dennis) Dykstra, nieces, great-nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and many other friends and family members. His family would like to extend appreciation and gratitude for the compassionate hospice care Lynn was provided by his in-home nurses and ThedaCare oncology staff. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
