LaVahn M. Miles, age 99, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Brewster Village.  Lavahn was born in Appleton on May 4, 1923, to the late Jesse E. and Nora J. (Krenkel) Ballard.  She graduated from Appleton High School with the class of 1941.  On June 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Samuel W. Miles. The family hosted a big gathering at Reetz's Supper Club celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary.  LaVahn worked for many years at Zwicker Knitting Mill, retiring in 1986.  She loved music and quickly picked up piano, she could play almost anything by ear.  She also enjoyed cooking and playing cards with her the "Rook Circle" and sheepshead clubs.  She was a big Green Bay Packer fan, and her and Samuel were season ticket holders for many years.  She was a longtime member at First English Lutheran Church.

She will be missed by her four children:  Kaaren Shortley, Appleton, Scott (Yolanda) Miles, Clintonville, Jess (Pat) Miles, Kimberly, and Marcia (Richard) Hoffman, Appleton; 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild nieces and nephews, and was God Mother to Terry Maves and Nora Broeniman.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Nora Ballard, husband Samuel, son Kurt, grandson Corey Miles Hoffman, sisters Arlene Maves and Nona Peterson, son-in-law Bill Shortley, and 4 brother-in-laws.

A funeral service will take place at 11 am on Tuesday, November 15th, at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel.  Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 9 am until 10:45 am.  Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
