John W.
Prete
Mar 20, 1958 — Dec 12, 2024
Sherwood
John W. Prete, age 66, of Sherwood, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, December 12, 2024 following a courageous four year battle with cancer. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late John and Norma (Arizzi) Prete on March 20, 1958. He met Joanne Dax fifty years ago in their hometown of Lombard, Illinois and married her on June 12, 1992. Together they created warm and welcoming homes for themselves, friends and family. John was forever the ultimate host and excellent cook. He took great pride in caring for his home and his guests.
John worked for many years as a HVAC technician until his retirement when he rediscovered his one true hobby and passion for flying R/C aircraft. He was a proud member of the Calumet Flyers where he formed many friendships. John was a lifelong Cubs fan and an avid Bears fan. He secretly enjoyed the Brewers and Packers when they weren't playing his Chicago teams. Some of his happiest times were spent in Door County and exploring Wisconsin scenic byways and Rustic Roads with Joanne. He appreciated and embraced the traditions of Wisconsin supper clubs and a good Friday fish fry. He is remembered for his incredible sense of humor, storytelling and delivery of a punchline. Most of all, he cherished the time spent with his family.
John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Joanne; his stepsons Johnny and Jeff Eichem; his brothers Angelo (Fran) Prete and Dan (Wendy) Prete; sister Camille (Ray) Mungovan; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by both of his parents.
From John and Joanne: Thank you to all who prayed, sent food, cards and messages of support. Special thanks to all the people who came to visit me. Thank you to the medical staff at Ascension Cancer Center at St. Elizabeth Hospital, the nurses on the 4th Floor, and the Compassus at home teams for their kindness and wonderful care of John.
Per John's wishes, no funeral service will be held.
