John Richard
Knuijt
Jun 19, 1961 — Feb 18, 2025
Appleton
John Richard Knuijt, age 63, of Appleton, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, February 18, 2025. He was born on June 19, 1961, to the late James and Helen (Hoffman) Knuijt. A proud member of the Appleton East High School class of 1979, John went on to attend Fox Valley Technical College, where he honed his skills as an auto mechanic.
John began his career at Fulton's before working at Zim Truck in Oshkosh then transitioned to N&M Transfer Co. in Neenah, where he retired in May 2024 with 37 years. As a diesel mechanic, John's expertise and dedication helped train the next generation, always supporting others in their goals and passions. He took great pride in his work and the people he mentored along the way.
On October 8, 1988, John married his beloved wife, Lana McIlhone, at Smith Park in Neenah. Together, they welcomed their only child, Hope Amber Knuijt, into the world on November 27, 1998. John was a devoted father, always actively involved in Hope's achievements and enjoying their family vacations. His love for his family was boundless, and he treasured every moment with them.
John was a man of many passions. He loved traveling the country for off-road racing events, hunting, and, of course, driving his cherished 1974 Z28 Camaro. He was also a gifted handyman, always ready with a tool in hand, whether working on his four-wheeler, tractor, or building his forever cabin in White Lake in 1993. John fondly remembered his trips to his parents' cabin in Iola, where he spent many happy hours in his younger years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lana, and his daughter, Hope (fiancé Trevor Berlin). John is further survived by many other family members and friends who will deeply miss his warmth, humor, and guidance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Knuijt, his brother, Jeff Knuijt, and two brothers-in-law, Leonard "Joe" McIlhone and Kenneth "Ken" Hartung.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, followed by a celebration of life at the Stone Toad in Menasha. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his honor. Dress casual and wear your favorite racing/sports shirt to the visitation and celebration of life.
John's legacy of hard work, love for his family, and dedication to helping others will never be forgotten.
