John C. Gilbert, age 78, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2021 at his home surrounded by his wife and children. John was born in Madison, WI on October 28, 1942 to the late Clark and Genevieve (Erickson) Gilbert. John proudly served his country as a member of the U. S. Army. He was stationed in West Germany where he met Irmgard. On June 26, 1969, they were united in marriage, enjoying 51 years together. John worked for many years at Pomp's Tire Service, retiring in 2008. In addition to spending time with his grandchildren, John enjoyed golfing, and attending local events with Irmgard such as the car show, Mile of Music, and the farmers market.

John is survived by his wife Irmgard; two daughters: Dawn (Mike) Biechler and Ann (Steve) Gruper; grandchildren: Brittney (Jake), Dylan, Brandon, Ace, Dalton, and Eliette; great grandchild, Lyla; and sister Phyllis (Richard) Gies.

He was preceded in death by siblings: James (Sybil) Gilbert and Beverly (Carl) Medrow.
