Joan E.
Mullin
Dec 26, 1933 — Jan 8, 2022
Joan Eva Mullin, age 88, of Appleton passed away peacefully on January 8th at Heartwood Homes in Appleton and left this world with a smile on her face. She was born on December 26, 1933, the second child and only daughter of the late Joseph and Louise Brandt.
After graduating from Appleton High School, Joan worked as a cashier at the Arcade Bowling Alley in Appleton and then as an elevator operator at the Appleton Hotel. It was there while working at the Appleton Hotel that she met Edmund Leo Mullin from Ashley, PA who worked for the Teamsters Union and traveled as a union organizer to the Midwest. On July 25, 1953, the two married and had four children. Joan resided in Appleton her entire life and dedicated herself to her family. Her family always gave her positive notoriety for her famous chocolate chip cookie recipe that no one was able to replicate to perfection and her delicious homemade apple pie. Joan loved watching Brewer baseball, had a special place in her heart for animals and enjoyed Friday night fish at Dick & Joan's in Appleton.
She is survived by her brother Vincent Brandt of Appleton; her three daughters: Joan Hooyman, Mary Schlimm and Pam Kopelke; sons-in-law: Bill Hooyman, Dave Schlimm and Dave Kopelke; grandchildren: Andrew (Tiffany) Hooyman, Green Bay; Adam (Stephanie) Hooyman, Appleton; Rachel Skinkis, Kaukauna; Jessica Schlimm, Green Bay; Ashley (Ben) Albrecht, Chippewa Falls and Michael Kopelke, St. Petersburg, FL. She is further survived by six great grandchildren: Decaprien, Khloe, Jayanni, Jazara, Anna and Garrett. She is also survived by additional nieces and nephews.
Joan was preceded in death by her mother Louise Brandt, her father Joseph Brandt, her brother David Brandt, her husband Edmund Mullin Sr., her son Edmund Mullin Jr., and her granddaughter's husband Mark Skinkis.
A private celebration of life will take place for Joan at a later date.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks for all the loving care she received at Heartwood Homes in Appleton as well as the compassion and excellent care provided by the Aseracare Hospice staff. Special heartfelt gratitude is extended to Aseracare nurse Kayla, for her exceptional end of life personal care and compassion given to our mother and our family.
