Jan Ellen Kodis (Muenster), 65, of Appleton, WI passed away peacefully on the evening of October 9, 2022, in her home, surrounded by family.

Jan was born on November 23, 1956, in Appleton WI to Lester E. Muenster and Lois M. Muenster (Rehfeldt). Jan attended primary school at Huntley Elementary in Appleton, WI and graduated from Appleton West High School in 1974.

Jan was a gifted performer and artist. At age 17, she began an over-10-year assignment with the Covenant Players, an international Christian repertory theater company, during which she traveled throughout the United States and Europe performing, directing, and coordinating plays. During her tenure with Covenant Players, Jan was in over 10,000 performances, played more than 300 roles, and was awarded the theater company's highest acting award, Supreme Best, for her role in the play, "Don't Leave Me Alone."

Jan met her husband, Stavros, while performing in Belgium and the two later married in 1993. They had a son, Steven, who shares in Jan's creative and artistic talents and Stavros's love for cooking. The Kodis family spent many happy years as owners and operators of the Apollon restaurant and members of the Appleton restaurant community.

In Jan's later years, her creative endeavors took the form of quilting and painting. She was an exceptional seamstress with an eye for unique colors and patterns. Jan's paintings incorporated bright colors, interesting layers, and abstract patterns. In addition to quilting and painting, Jan's favorite hobbies included drinking coffee, antiquing, organizing, and being in nature. Along with her sisters, brothers-in-law and her son, Jan was a lover of bourbon. She enjoyed traveling the Kentucky Bourbon Trail and celebrating with a "cheers!" with those she loved.

Jan is survived by her son, Steven (Nora) Kodis, her sisters, Lori (Hugh) Hays and Karen (Donn) Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss her. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and her husband.

A "Celebration of Life and Memorial Service" will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 5:30 p.m., at Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, 606 N Oneida St, Appleton, WI 54911. Family and friends are invited to come and share fond memories and stories from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Appleton. Please feel free to wear an outfit that honors Jan's creative and artistic nature. In lieu of flowers, those who wish to express sympathy may consider making a donation to the Appleton West High School Art Department.
