Iris Faith
Ost
May 6, 1949 — Oct 1, 2022
Iris Faith Ost, 73, of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Renaissance Assisted Living.
Iris was born in Chicago on May 6, 1949, to the late Julius Seiff and Rose (Unterberger) Kagan. Prior to retirement, she worked as a purchasing agent for the University of Wisconsin and later the Wisconsin Historical Society. After retirement, she was an active member at Moses Montefiore Synagogue and served on its board of directors. Her work with the synagogue allowed her to become an important, compassionate and trusted figure within the Jewish community.
Iris loved playing Mahjong with her girlfriends and making trips on her motorized scooter to area businesses. Most of all, Iris loved being a grandma! She adored her grandchildren immensely and would share with everyone she met how proud she was of all of their accomplishments. Thanksgiving was one of her favorite holidays, which was the catalyst to having large family gatherings with the Weyenberg family, creating "unique" Thanksgiving traditions and memories. Thanksgiving will not be the same without her.
She is survived by her daughter Amy (Kevin) Weyenberg, of Appleton; son Robert Ost, Arkansas; grandchildren Rachel Rose and Joshua Thomas Weyenberg and Emerson Lazer and Lenox Lee Ost; brother Norman Seiff, Arizona; and sister Beverly Wise, Texas. She is further survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will take place at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, October 9, at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit at the chapel on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Moses Montefiore Synagogue in Appleton.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Renaissance Assisted Living for the compassionate care given to Iris, and to the community at Moses Montefiore Synagogue for their visits, thoughts and prayers. Amy would like to thank Kevin Weyenberg, Marcie Wise-Smith and Bev Wise for being her rock during Iris' final days. Kevin, my mom loved you like a son rather than an in-law, and it meant the world to her and to me to have you there at the end.
