Obituary

Homer Richard "Dick" Earl passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 7, 2026.  He was 84.

Dick was born on November 17, 1941, in Appleton, WI to the late Homer and Frances Earl. Dick spent time in his youth boating on Lake Winnebago in his father and grandfather's wooden boats.  He also raced wooden hydrofoil boats in his teens.  One fall 24-hour period a young Dick experienced the trifecta of Wisconsin sports with his grandfather.   They attended a Wisconsin badger football game, a Milwaukee Braves baseball game and the following noon a Green Bay Packer game.

Dick attended Appleton High.  While in high school he met Judy Connell who was attending St. Mary's High school in Menasha.  They fell in love and married on August 3, 1963.

Dick worked at and later ran the family printing company Earl Litho Printing along with his wife Judy and brother Steve.

Dick loved old cars.  He collected a few over his life and drove them on occasion.  He and Judy would attend the annual Iola Car show every summer and drove out to Hershy Pennsylvania to attend the Hershy Car show a few times.  Dick enjoyed spending time at family cottages in Waupaca, Lakewood and Shawano.  After fixing something at the old cottage, he couldn't wait to get on the boat for an afternoon ride.

Dick and Judy were avid snow skiers.  For over 20 years winter weekends would be spent at the ski cabin in Bessmer, MI.  Some of his fondest times were being with his two grandchildren on the ski hills of the U.P.  Dick and Judy also skied in the Colorado Rockies several times over the years.

Dick and Judy attended every event of their grandchildren, Hailey and Jack Coughlin, that they could.  The grandchildren brought them true joy.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife Judy, parents Homer and Frances Earl, In Laws George and Florence Connell, Sister in laws Jean Connell, Donna Connell, Joanne Gosz and brother-in-law Hank Gosz.

Dick is survived by his daughter Cindy (Sean) Coughlin, son Craig (Staci May) Earl, grandchildren Hailey and Jack Coughlin, Bother Steve (Barb) Earl, brother-in-law Jim Connell and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will take place at 11:30 am on Tuesday, May 19, at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel.  Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:15.  Interment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Primrose for the loving care they provided to Dick over the past 2.5 years.  All who attended to Dick's needs are special people
