Gloria D. Howe, age 84, Appleton, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at her home. She was born in Waukegan, IL on May 22, 1940, to the late Peter and Lillian (Anderson) Andren. Gloria graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1958 and from St. Therese School of Nursing in 1961. She and Terry were married on June 16, 1962, in Waukegan and they resided in Joliet, where she was employed at Silver Cross Hospital. They moved to Appleton in 1966 because of a job transfer and started their family.

She ended her nursing career after 26 years in long term care first at Appleton Extended Care Center and then Franciscan Care Center retiring in 2002. Gloria had a special love and respect for the elderly and maintained contact with patients and their families long after she retired.

Following retirement, she enjoyed preparing and delivering meals to people in need of some help. Gloria was an avid Bucks and Packer fan and actively participated in bowling and golf.   She loved to travel, spend time at the cottage on Washington Lake with family and friends, play bridge and was an avid reader. Her greatest joy was her daughters and grandsons. Gloria valued their time together and would frequently say, "life is good."

Gloria was pleased to be a member of the Health, Healing and Help Ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed being an active member of the Appleton Woman's Club for several years.

Gloria will be greatly missed by her daughters: Tracy Carpenter and Susan Howe; grandsons: Connor (Katie) Carpenter and Gunther Carpenter; granddaughter Georgia Rasmussen; great granddaughter Kaylee Carpenter; and other relatives and friends who loved her.

Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Terry and sister Barbara (Chuck) McDowell.

A Memorial Service for Gloria will be held at 11:30 AM, on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit the family from 10 AM until the time of service. Gloria will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Terry, at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the Salvation Army, St. Joseph's Food Pantry, or Fox Valley Humane Society.
