Obituary

Edward passed away on May 21, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. Ed was born in Gloucester, NJ on May 22, 1949, to his parents were Charles and Virginia (Dixon) Funk.

To say that Ed truly lived life to the fullest is an understatement. Ed was a proud graduate of Goldey-Beacom College. He played Saxophone and marched in the Original Hobo Band during many parades including Philadelphia Mummers parade. He was a volunteer Fireman (ground crew as he was afraid of heights), he also wrote auditing software code for a bank that would have been put into place if the bank were not sold.

The best time spent in his day was with his family/friends, drinking a cold one and enjoying great conversation and laughs. Since moving to WI, he left the Eagles nest to embrace being a Packer fan. An amateur train hobbyist, he loved to go to train museums with family in PA and in WI. He loved interactive games like horseshoes & chess. Quick witted and punny, he had a never-ending supply of dad jokes.

In 1973 he married his first wife Marie Stabley. Ed is survived by their three daughters: April (Joe) Pinto and their children Autumn and Irving, Jamie (Krystalyn) Funk, Renee Morgan and her twin girls Kaitlyn and Rebecca. Again, family was extremely important to Ed and his girls were on his mind. It made him extremely happy to have been able to see all of his daughters this year.

Ed met Elaine Brunner in 1986 and the two single parents were inseparable since they met. In 2002 Ed and Elaine tied the knot in Las Vegas after their "short" 15-year courtship. They lived in Burlington, NJ until they moved to Wisconsin to be closer to Elaine's boys in 2012. He is survived by his stepsons: Michael Brunner and son Joe, Matt (Jen) Brunner and Norb (Leslie) Brunner.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Bobby, and his wife Elaine. Ed is further survived by his brother Richard (Carol) and nephew Michael Funk. Elaine's nephews John "Bud" Buckley, Frank (Melissa) Buckley and Carl (Eileen) Buckley, who always gave Elaine and Ed a place to stay when they went back to the East Coast.

A celebration of Ed's life will take place at The 10th Frame in Appleton, WI at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.
