Obituary

David Charles Piehl Sr.

age 81, died on the evening of Sept. 14, 2024, at Primrose Retirement Community of Appleton surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Dec. 1, 1942, in Renville, Minnesota. David spent his life reading devotionals, gardening, fishing, enjoying the outdoors and spending time with his family. He graduated from Renville High School, served in the Army National Guard for three years, and later worked in the telephone industry for Northwestern Bell and AT&T at Kimberly Clark where he was known for his strong work ethic and companionship. In Ortonville, Minnesota, he was an active community member on the Jaycees and served on the city council. After moving to Appleton, Wisconsin, he was a regular attendee of Alliance Church, volunteering in a variety of ministries including Awana and Streets of Bethlehem.

He portrayed every single one of the fruits of the Spirit on a daily basis: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23, New International Version).

In addition to his admirable spirit, his famous garden was the highlight of every neighborhood he called home. Neighbors would wave and commend his meticulously cared-for corn, carrots, tomatoes, peppers and pumpkins. In fact, they often commented how they modeled their own gardens after David's garden. Moreover, there was never a shortage of colorful floral landscaping to brighten your mood. His favorite flower was a rose, but his most prized plant was his snowball bush viburnum.

David is survived by his wife, Marjorie A. Piehl; son, David C. Piehl Jr.; daughters: Jennifer A. Holmes and Marie A. Coffman; and grandchildren, Spencer C., Kyle C., Samuel C., Indigo Z., Annika C., Annah K., Zachary P., and Autumn H.
