Obituary

Daniel J. Schultz, age 92, passed away peacefully at home with family by his side, from Parkinson's complications on Sunday, February 26, 2023.

He was born on June 20, 1930, in Appleton to Harold "Butch" and Hazel (O'Connell) Schultz.  Danny graduated from Appleton High School in 1948.  He then served in the Army from 1948 – 1951 with the 521 st Transportation Company of the 4 th Army during the Korean War.

On June 4 th , 1955, he married JoAnn Giesen at St. Therese Catholic Church.  During 55 years of marriage they had 3 children - Kurt (Special Friend Nancy Freude) Oshkosh, Toni (Mark) Shepherd, Winneconne, and Teri (Mark) Woessner, Estero, FL.  They resided in their home on Packard St. for over 50 years, next door to the house Danny was born in.

Danny was a business partner in Appleton Oil Company for 39 years, which was located on his parent's farm in the 1200 block of West Wisconsin Ave.  In retirement, he enjoyed working for Bay Title & Abstract.

Danny was especially proud of his cottage on Legend Lake where he enjoyed many happy times putzing, boating, and sitting by the fire with family and friends.  You were only a stranger once with Danny!

Danny's best friends were his classmates from the class of 48, six whom he joined the Army with.  His "musky fishing" trips to the Boulder Junction area with high school friends and buddies from the Arcade Bar were legendary.  Danny and JoAnn also always enjoyed their annual trips to Florida.

Danny was also a very active member of the class of 48 reunion committee and a 65-year member of the American Legion Post 38.  He was also a long-time member of St. Mary Parish in Appleton.  Danny was a great joke teller and known for his quick wit which he attributed to his mother's Irish heritage.

He is survived by his 3 children; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Don) Wilkinson and Bernice Giesen, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, wife JoAnn, brothers John (Joan) and Tom "Red" (Joann); in-laws, Ruth (Sylvester) Hanson, John (Jane) Giesen, Lester (Shirley) Giesen, Bill Giesen, Lawrence (Lucille) Giesen and Emily (Vernon) Garvey.

A celebration of Danny's life will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 1 pm at the Appleton Yacht Club, 1200 S. Lutz Drive, Appleton.  A light lunch and beverages will be served.

Friends and family are welcome to share funny stories and memories to honor Danny's life.

Interment will take place at St. Mary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers a memorial fund will be established.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to his medical care professionals, VA, and the compassionate staff at Asera Care Hospice, especially nurse Kayla.

Heaven just got funnier…Foo!!
