Daniel A.
Gowey
Jul 22, 1947 — Nov 17, 2022
Daniel A. Gowey, age 75, of Appleton, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Silverstone Memory Care in Appleton. He was born on July 22, 1947, to the late John and Margaret (Rinehart) Gowey in Wausau. He grew up in Sauk City and graduated from Sauk Prairie High School. After voluntarily enlisting, Dan proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969 in the 101 st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. Dan married the love of his life, Judy Lueders on June 6, 1970. He later obtained his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from UW-Madison.
Dan was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed traditional bowhunting, turkey hunting, and pheasant hunting. In addition to his sporting pursuits, Dan generally enjoyed spending time outdoors doing things such as hiking, biking, visiting parks and seeing new places. He taught hunters education for over 25 years. Displaying his generous nature, Dan once donated a bear tag he spent 8 years applying for to take a young person with special needs on a successful bear hunt. Dan was also a skilled woodworker and handyman. When anyone needed help fixing or building something, he'd already be packing his tools before you
could even ask for help. A lifelong learner, Dan would share his passions with all. He was a great listener who cherished friends and family and enjoyed personal conversations. He donated blood at the Community Blood Center for most of his adult life. Most of all, Dan cherished the time spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Dan is survived by his wife of 52 "wonderful" years, Judy; his children: Angela (Ryan) Mainville and Eric (Terri) Gowey; his grandchildren: Mark, Ella, and Ben Mainville and Chancellor, Champion, and Charisma Gowey; brothers Gene (Doris) Gowey and Tom Gowey; sister Peggy Wilson; brother-in-law Gale (Mary Ann) Lueders; sisters-in-law Joan Carson and Linda Lueders; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law: Gary Lueders, James Wilson, and Bob Carson.
A Funeral Service for Dan will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 21, 2022, at FIRST ENGLISH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 326 E North Street, Appleton, with Pastor Mary Bauer officiating. Friends may visit from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established for the Fox Valley Memory Project. Inurnment will take place at Historic Riverside Cemetery in Appleton.
The Family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Silverstone Memory Care and Moments Hospice for the care and compassion they showed Dan and his family.
