Obituary

Dan was born to John "Jack" and Myrtle (Rundhammer) Gauslin on October 24, 1942.  He spent many days of his early life at the YMCA learning to swim and participating in youth activities.  His "Y" experiences followed him his whole life.  He taught swimming, played handball and racquetball winning many single and doubles tournaments during these early adult years.  In his later years he faithfully made daily trips to the Apple Creek Y facility to do his treadmill work and strength and resistance exercises.

The BSA Explorer program also played a large role in his life.  A canoe trip from the Region 7 Canoe Base in the Boulder Junction, Wisconsin and a BSA Jamboree in Colorado were never forgotten as Colorado called him back many years later to visit friends and explore the Colorado Art communities.  Many of those art pieces hung on his wall as a reminder of the things he cherished.

In the 70's he toured Europe and always shared his experiences focusing on a view of the world outside the USA.  In the 80's he had a mechanical heart valve surgery that gave him his future.  A big supporter of the Green Bay Packers, he worked field security for many years even during the Ice Bowl and always expressed admiration for Bart Starr and the players he met.  He held a variety of jobs over the years, but the one with the most meaning was working for Lamers Bus Co. transporting the special education students for over 20 years.  Always a faithful supporter and personal cheerleader for each of his charges.

Dan will be missed by , his sister Judy (John) Davis of Kaukauna, his brother Richard (Vicki) Gauslin of Appleton , his sister-in-law Betty (John) Gauslin of Appleton, his nephews Mick Davis, Denver CO, Nila Veylan (Jessica), Greenville, WI, and Nathan (Shelly) Gauslin, Brooklyn Park, MN.

A private family celebration of Dan's life will be held later this spring.  Donations to Special Olympics Wisconsin would honor his dedication to the students he transported to school for many years.
