Charles "Chuck"
E. Otto
May 12, 1938 — Oct 31, 2023
Appleton
Charles "Chuck" E. Otto, age 85, of Appleton, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 31st, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Chuck was born in Appleton on May 12, 1938, to the late Clarence "Slim" and Lenore (Nutting) Otto. He attended school at St. Therese Elementary, Roosevelt Junior High and Appleton High School. Following high school, Chuck proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.
On February 11, 1961, he married Marlene Quella at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Together with "his bride," they built a life in Appleton with their five children and would go on to enjoy over 62 beautiful years together. He spent most of his working career as a pressman at Northwestern Colorgraphics, retiring in 1998. He was a longtime faithful member at St. Bernadette Parish.
Chuck's great passion (and source of greatest angst) was watching sports, most important of course being the Green Bay Packers. In his retirement, he became an expert at refinishing furniture, often taking neglected items and turning them into treasures for his family, friends and the St. Bernadette rummage sale. But above all, he loved spending time with his family, which only continued to grow. Though he departed sooner than we would have wished, he leaves behind a true, enviable legacy — Five children, twelve grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. They are among the many who loved him, though countless others will miss and remember him.
He is survived by Marlene, Appleton; four daughters: Diane (Bruce) Fecteau, Appleton, Joan (Scott) Giltner, Hudson, Cheryl (Richard) Otto-Lynch, Menasha, and Debi (Jon) Totzke, Appleton; his son, Jeff (Jeannie) Otto, Shiocton; 12 grandchildren: Ryan (Anne) Fecteau, Kurt (Katie) Fecteau, Robin (Cody) Kiley, Casey (Brittany) Giltner, Brett (Anna) Giltner, Jason (Mia) Giltner, Danielle (partner Lucas) Lynch, David (Isabella) Lynch, Adam Lynch, Sam Otto, Maddie (Austin) Kuhnke, and Zebediah Totzke; 13 great grandchildren: Grace, Eddie, Dela, Cooper, Reese, Raegan, Connor, Caden, Raelynn, Ingrid, Colette, Norah, and Alayna; 2 brothers: Mike (Shirley) Otto, Appleton and Steve (Carol) Otto, Appleton; 3 sisters-in-law: Bea Otto, Appleton, Dolores (Erv) Hagen, (Appleton), and Dorothy (Doug) Verbeten, Greenleaf; 6 brothers-in-law: Jack Kloss, Crandon, Paul Quella, Wabeno, Eugene (Sally) Quella, Hortonville, Jim Quella, Appleton, Don Quella, Sherwood, and Bob (Amy) Birch, Appleton. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Eugene Otto; 2 sisters: Marian Kloss and Marlene (Julius) Schroeder; father and mother-in-law Raymond and Claudine Quella; and 2 sisters-in-law: Mary Rose Birch and Delores Quella.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:30 am on Saturday, November 4, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr. Appleton, with Father Donald Zuleger officiating. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday from 9 am until 11:15 am. Interment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for their compassionate care for Chuck.
Chuck Otto was a man of family. A man of faith. A kind and congenial man, who inspired others to be the same, and who passed along his best traits to the generations that followed him. He has left an indelible impact in the lives of countless people. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
