Obituary

On March 31 st , 2023, Barbara Ann Kersten ended a cruel battle with cancer while surrounded by her loving family.  Barbara was born in Appleton on February 1 st , 1947, to the late Paul W. Rohloff and Mildred M. (Quimby).  Barbara graduated from Hortonville High School with the class of '65, was of course Prom Queen, and still keeps in touch with friends from school -GO Polar Bears! Also in 1965, Barb was first runner up in the Miss Appleton Pageant where she sang " You Can't Get a Man with a Gun", complete with firing a few blanks on stage! In 1968 she was united in marriage to William Bahr and together they had two beautiful children, Jodi and Jayssen.  Barbara was far more than a stay-at-home mom, she was also a compassionate caregiver for her brother John, who had been left a quadriplegic after a car accident in 1972.  During this time, she started White House Upholstery and was well known for her exceptional work. Barb then spent 21 years working at Standard Electric, retiring in 2013 as an executive administrator's assistant.  Barb took great pleasure in decorating her lovely home, planted and maintained a beautiful garden.  She also enjoyed cooking, entertaining and hosting parties at her home.  She was an avid birdwatcher and patiently waited each year for the bluebirds to build a nest in her bluebird house.  Barb had a beautiful soul, a heart of gold and always thought of others before herself.

She will be missed by her daughter, Jodi Bahr; grandchildren:  Chelse and Marissa Klein; 6 brothers and sisters:  Dick (Linda) Rohloff, Chuck (Linda) Rohloff, Paula (Al) Mader, Ed (Lisa) Rohloff, Jerry (Karen) Rohloff, and Laurie (Mike) Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews and especially her canine companion, Ziva.  She is further survived by her step-siblings; Ginny Corwin, Gwinette Zuelke, Garnet (Wayne) Meisenhelder, Glori (Charlie) Beaver, Geof Williams and Gordon Williams, and a special family friend, Dori Williams.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son Jayssen; brother John Rohloff; step-father, George Williams; step-brother Gerald and step-brother-in-law, Mark Zuelke, and step-mother Clydene.

Some people walk through life without ever realizing how much they touched someone.  Gratefully, not so with Barbara.  Her Standard Electric family let her know just how special she was. The guys she worked with happily agreed to be her Whitehouse Upholstery delivery men! When bunny rabbits kept eating the beans she tried planting in a small garden at work, the guys decided to surprise her. One day they let Barb know her plants were sprouting beans. Barb ran out and found that they had placed cans of beans next to each bunny nibbled plant! Special thanks go out to all of these very dear friends at Standard Electric, in particular,Tim and Sharon.

A memorial service will take place at 1 pm on Saturday, April 29 th , at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel.  Friends may visit at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 10:30 am until 12:45 pm.  Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Appleton.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Brittany and Desiree (lovingly referred to by Barb as Dizzy) from ThedaCare Hospice as well as Erin and Jen from Dimensions Assisted Living for the compassionate care given to Barbara. Thanks also go out to two special cousins: Sandy Gitter and Lynn Schmalz.
