Alan D. Hopfensperger, age 67, of Appleton, passed away May 2, 2026 surrounded by his loving family at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah.

Alan was born in Appleton on February 18, 1959 to the late Lester and Margaret (Schmitz) Hopfensperger. Alan attended St. Therese grade school and graduated from Appleton East High School in 1977. He then received an associates degree from Fox Valley Technical College. As a car enthusiast, he started his career as a car associate at Uehling Oldsmobile in downtown Appleton after graduation.

Alan spent 40 years working at Gustmans car dealership before retiring in December 2024. He was a familiar face for customers walking into Gustman Honda in Appleton, where he helped hundreds of customers over the years. He was known to treat people fairly and with a sense of humor. On the sales floor he even met his wife Margie (formerly Margaret Diermeier), who stopped in to buy a car with her father.

Alan and Margie, a nurses aide, were married at St. Mary's Parish on October 19, 1985. They were active parents in the lives of their two children Christopher "Ziggy" and Anna. They adored their young grandsons, Colton and Caden, and absolutely loved being closely connected to their lives. Thursdays were sacred to them, as they got to spend designated one on one time with the grandkids. He treasured his role as 'Grandpa-Pa,' always going above and beyond to make the kids feel loved.

Alan also enjoyed his weekly "bro lunches with his brothers Dane and Dennis, Friday fish fries, catching up with lifelong friends, car shows, nature walks at Heckrodt Wetland Reserve and deer sightings.

Alan is survived by his daughter Anna (Austin) Selle of Kimberly, Christopher Ziggy Hopfensperger, grandsons Colton and Caden, brother Dane (Janice) Hopfensperger of Oshkosh, sister Judy (Dave) Vandel of Darboy, Joyce (Robert) Stertz of Omro, and Jean Hopfensperger of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Margaret Hopfensperger, brother Dennis, and infant son Nicholas.

A joint funeral mass for Alan and Margie, who both died from injuries sustained in an April 9 car collision, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday May 7 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 S. State Street in Appleton. Friends may visit at the church Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10:45. a.m. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff at ThedaCare Hospital in Neenah for their compassionate care and his church family at St. Mary for all of their prayers and support.
